Imaging after Photography

The Moody Center for the Arts
2026

Imaging after Photography explores the mercurial nature of images, the evolving dialogue between photographs and reality, and humanity’s ever-changing relationship to technological advancements. Artificial intelligence has introduced perspective-altering conditions, shifting how we see the world and our place within it. The featured works by global contemporary artists offer nuanced vantage points on the history of photography and its intersections with machine learning, asking questions about human perception, technological intervention, and how we mediate the indeterminate spaces between the physical and the imaginary. What is authentic, what is possible, and what are the issues at stake?

The design of the exhibition intends to parse out notions of source, process and result within each artist’s body of work while creating a space that exemplifies the proliferation of image making expounded by their practices. The six artist spaces are radially arranged around a center space, creating a panoptical vision of the exhibition as a whole. The only way to escape from the abundance of visual stimuli is to focus, to engage, discern and contemplate the specificity within the work that appeals to us as individuals.

Featured artists included Nouf Aljowaysir, Refik Anadol, Gregory Chatonsky, Sofia Crespo, Joan Fontcuberta, Lisa Oppenheim, and Trevor Paglen.
