Paisaje Tendido 1 (Suspended Landscape 1), was a site-specific Camera Translucida installation inside of an old military basketball gym, located in the tranquil yet dynamic landscapes of the Marin Headlands. The installation sought to create an analogous and contemplative experience using the existing architecture and locality. My term “camera translucida” is an evolution of the ancient “camera obscura” device, whereby the light (image) is cast onto a translucent material and can be seen from two sides.

The installation consisted of 5 apertures, 3 meters apart from each other, which created 5 different images of the landscape outside the space. The size and distance of the apertures to the screen were measured to achieve enough luminosity and focus, while having all 5 images merge into one another, creating a single long panoramic landscape. The existing architecture of the gymnasium, namely the five windows, was the basis for the quantity and distance between apertures.
